We have to take responsibility for our Health.
Today there are 2 discussions that need your attention. This morning I was listening to the morning news shows and it was announced that Blacks are disproportionately developing heart disease at an earlier rate than that of whites. Also, there is know explanation as to why. They mentioned that a Black person 30 years of age (in this study) had the same heart condition as a 50-year-old White person. This research was compiled over a 20-year period. I am not sure if the social economic level was similar or what type of control group was observed but the mere suggestion that Blacks have a predisposition for heart disease is a cause to make health care among blacks a greater priority than ever before.
The second thing that I think there should be a discussion about was what I heard last week. Now keep in mind I am the Interim Executive Director of The Faces Project, Incorporated our mission is to put a Face on Prostate Cancer. Last week there was a study released that basically stated that after a continuance study was conducted on prostate cancer. It was concluded that the treatment of prostate cancer was more devastating than the cancer itself. What??? Never mind that for example in Washington D.C. Black Men are 2nd only to Nairobi Kenya in the fatality rate of contracting this disease and dying from it in the world. Also, that black men are being diagnosed with prostate cancer in later stages than any other male population in the country. As I stated these issues are cause for discussion and action. Just another reason why we have to be proactive in regards to our health because it appears that are to be plans set in place if your are not. What do you think hummhhhh?
