Wealth is Cooler than Health

October 26, 2009

Is it any wonder that the Breakfast food cereals that contribute the most to child-hood obesity have the most persuasive advertising?  I mean come on folks just how appealing is Quaker Oats oatmeal compared to Fruity Pebbles.    Now, I will admit that this new Quaker Oats commercial with the guy using Quaker Oats Oatmeal as a booster pack for a Jet Pack is pretty cool.  However I am not sure if the commercial is geared for kids.  As a matter of fact I know it isn’t I say let’s get Sponge Bob or Marley Sirrus  start promoting the real healthy cereals.   Not the infamous big green Check that is supposed to designate good health but  really represents  SOS ( same old s&$!)..Also, I never really saw a child buy his or her own cereal.    Flash…..This just in.  Spike Lee is right Taller Perry needs attitude check.  Tom Joyner, don’t forget your on morning drive when most of the kids are going to shcool.

Oh and by the way I am struggling with my diabetic levels.  Today was 332.

A Monumental Day in the Neighborhood

October 9, 2009

Today was a Monumental day in the neighborhood.  It started with NASA starting with its new Mantra, Colonizing the Moon.  Yes just like Blade Runner a Science Fiction Thriller from Hollywood and decades ago the first steps to Colonization was started today with a guided missile, the size of a SUV full of explosives was aimed at a Crater on the Moon to find out what kind of minerals are on the Moon and whether it can sustain life as we Humans know it.

However, that was not the half of it about an hour or 2 earlier it was announced that President Barak Obama just won the Nobel Peace Prize.  A surprise to everyone and he also won a million dollars to go along with it.

Although, the event that really floated my boat I was able to interview Governor O’Malley of the State of Maryland as he rolled out the first H1N1 Swine Flu Virus Vaccines at Dodge Park Elementary School in Landover, Maryland.  Now that was Cooler than the Gang.

The only downer today happened this morning when I tested my sugars it was up 264 ml.  Now that is down from 364 on Tuesday morning.  Yet not as good as Wednesday when I thought I was on my way when my level was a Great 180 ml just 40 units from my goal of 140 or below.  I am not in denial now I am in reform.   So check out the podcast for today and go to my Radio Program www.blogtalkradio.com/healthstream and catch the broadcast.

Why Do Black Males need a special health bailout

March 16, 2009

The health condition of  Citizens in the United States is an integral part of our nations economic recovery. It is very easy to see that stress is fueling alot of the health problems in the community.   High unemployment low balling on wages and the band plays on.  Plus in the minority community Black  Males for example have a 13 % unemployment rate compared to  the national White male average of 6.7 % .  Now also add that it has been discovered some of the nations largest banks have systematically placed higher interest rates on loans for Minorities (directly Black Males).  Is it any wonder that Black Males have the lowest life expectancy than any other population in America?    Yet the disparity that Black Males exhibit in developing and dying from chronic diseases (chronic defined by a disease that can be prevented) I contend is not because men (especially black men) are not going  to the doctor, but because Black Men suffer from stress more than any other group in this country.  Sure early detection is a factor for survival.  However I qualify that statement by looking at Bob Barker, the old host of the Price Is Right.  Who also had abundant resources and less stress than the average black man probably is observed by a Health Care Provider more than likely twice a month.    In the same token I saw  Les Brown. a motivtional speaker whose  most notable acheivement was that he was maried To superstar Gladys Knight ( from the fame R&B singing group Gladys Knight and the Pips) is a Prostate Cancer  survivor.  He had a revolutionary treatment that  essentialy cured ( for lack of a better term)  his prostate cancer He contends that he has health care that he pays $5000.00 dollars a month.  I guess my point is, is that if you are not stessed out by being oppressed or consistently discreminated against and have resources you are less lickely to get these chronic ailments or equally as important die form them .  What do you think?
